A cylindrical cast iron pillar box (free-standing post box) stands on the corner of Lee Conservancy Road and Poplar Close. Painted in the usual red on a black base, this example is from Edward VII’s reign and displays the royal cipher “ER VII” beneath a crown and above the words “POST OFFICE”. The maker’s details on the base (heavily painted) could not be made out in the prevailing light .
